Welcome to the Center on Aging at Colorado State University. Since its inception in 2000, the Center has pursued the mission of stimulating and facilitating multidisciplinary research, education and outreach in the field of aging. The ultimate goal of the Center’s activities is to improve the lives of older adults and their families in the State of Colorado. The Center is housed in the College of Applied Human Sciences (CAHS) with faculty affiliates from all academic units within the college and from academic units across Colorado State University.
The Center on Aging embodies the mission of the land-grant university through
- facilitating basic and applied research projects;
- offering educational programs in the field of aging; and
- working with a network of community-based agencies, as well as CSU Extension, to serve the aging population in the State of Colorado.
Aging is a topic that touches all of us in many different ways. At the societal level, the "graying" of the population raises important questions about health care, workforce participation, social policy, and many more. At the individual level, aging is a phenomenon that is multifaceted and is experienced in very different ways by different people. For example, although one 65-year old may have the physical fitness and the motivation to climb the highest mountains in Colorado, another 65-year old may have impairments that limit his or her quality of life in profound ways. It is this great diversity of the aging process that the faculty and students who are involved with the Center on Aging try to address.
We hope that the Center on Aging can be a resource for you in terms of research, education, and outreach service.
